Menengai Oilers have stamped their dominance in Kenya cup match Day three, after beating Mwamba RFC 94 -9.

In an interview with Mtaa Wangu after the tournament, Oilers head coach, Gibson Weru, notes that the points acquired are the highest ever in the Kenya Cup matches.

"We have had a fantastic start of the season. The boys have earned us three unbeaten matches and good score margins starting with three bonus points," he says.

Coming into the season, Gibu notes that their win at the Impala Floodlit title gave them good momentum at the start of the season.

“We picked up on lessons along the way and for now we are going to analyse, review and look into areas to improve so that we are prepared for the games ahead,” the coach says.

Other than the old line up, Gibu mentions that new players who were recruited in the pre-season got play time and displayed a good show on the field, contributing to their win.

Among the new talents in the team is Amos Obae from Nakuru RFC, Antony Owino from University of Eldoret, Brain Achacha, Victor Were and Samuel Ovuamu from Daystar university.

“I am happy that both the new and old players are aligning well which gives me confidence with the squad we have this season,” coach Gibu adds.

He further mentioned Chrispine Shitundo as an outstanding player alongside Adrew Odero and Elkeans Musonye.

“Our Man of the match goes to Charles Osgood who did the heavy lifting today.”

His counterpart, Mark Mshila, from Mwamba RFC termed the game as a tough game and an equally hard loss to take.

“If look at the difference in points between the first half and the second half, I would term it ‘oil and water’. I am trying to find out what happened to the players through the second half of the match, as score moved from 26 -9 to 94-9,” he says.

Coach Mshila, admits that the next game will not be easier as they meet KCB Rugby for the Enterprise Cup.

“Ours is to get back to the drawing board and re-strategize for the matches ahead. Even at that, I must commend our man of the match Byron Webbo for his commitment in the field. Not forgetting Eugen Ogiambo for the three penalty points earned for the team today,” he says.
