In the women’s singles final, Sassy Yvonne triumphed over Joy Nagami 6-3, while Clara Wairimu and Christabel Kemunto clinched the women’s doubles title with a 6-1 victory against Bridget Mungai and Esther Bwari.
During the women’s singles semi-finals, Sassy Yvonne defeated Marion Kandie 4-2, while Joy Nagami edged out Catherine Awendi 7-4.
Paul Kinyua and Catherine Awendi were named the tournament's most valuable players in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
Speaking after his victory, Baraka expressed his delight at winning both the singles and doubles titles in Nakuru.
"Winning singles and doubles is no small feat, especially on a new court. This win is proof that my training has paid off," he says.
Paul Kinyua also reflected positively on his performance, noting that reaching the final was a personal best, as his previous highest achievement had been in the quarterfinals.
"Playing against new opponents was both challenging and exciting. I’m looking forward to winning the next tournament," Kinyua remarks.
For Sassy Yvonne, the tournament was a milestone as it marked her first-ever competition.
"This was my debut tournament, and winning has motivated me to keep working hard and pursue more opportunities," Yvonne shares.
Joseph Juma, one of the tournament organisers, highlighted the impressive turnout, with 73 players registering for this third edition of the event.
"The turnout was higher than expected compared to previous editions. We hope to see even more participation, especially from Nakuru residents," Juma said.
Juma also emphasises his goal to grow the number of tennis players in Nakuru and enhance the tournament's reputation.
He notes the encouraging participation of high school students from Nakuru Day Secondary School and Kikopey Secondary School, expressing hope for even greater involvement in future tournaments.
