Nakuru RFC put up a spirited campaign at the 33rd edition of the Great Rift 10-Aside tournament, emerging as one of the standout teams despite a 21-0 loss to Kabras RFC in the final played at Nakuru Athletic Club on Sunday evening.

‎‎Heading into the final, Nakuru RFC fondly known as Wanyore had demonstrated resilience and tactical discipline throughout the competition. Their journey to the final included a convincing 12-0 semi-final victory over KCA University Rugby, a result that highlighted their defensive strength and attacking efficiency.

‎‎The hosts were aiming to cap off a remarkable run with a title win, especially in a tournament that coincided with the centenary celebrations of Nakuru Athletic Club. Backed by a passionate home crowd, Nakuru RFC showed determination, but came up against a well-drilled Kabras side that capitalized on early opportunities.

‎‎Kabras RFC, under coach Ntabeni Dukisa, struck early through Adrian Kwesa, who sprinted from his own half to score and convert, setting the tone for the match. Despite this early setback, Nakuru RFC remained composed, attempting to break down Kabras’ solid defensive line.

‎‎Even when Kabras were temporarily reduced in numbers following a sin-bin for Mike Okello, Nakuru RFC pressed forward but were unable to convert possession into points. Kabras instead extended their lead through tries by Levis Ochieng and Roy Maruti, sealing the victory.

‎‎While the final scoreline may not have reflected Nakuru RFC’s overall tournament performance, their run to the final underscored their growing stature in Kenyan rugby. Their defensive organization and ability to control matches in earlier rounds marked them as serious contenders.
