Senator Tabitha Karanja calls for Kihika's impeachment over Nakuru war memorial saga
The ongoing standoff at the Nakuru war Memorial hospital has opened a new political battlefront for Nakuru county’s top leadership.
Nakuru governor Susan Kihika who is embroiled in a fierce battle with the hospital over the ownership of the 26 acres of land on which the facility sits on, will now be forced to fight off criticism from her fellow leaders in the county.
Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja, popularly known as Keroche, has been the first senior leader from the county to tell off the governor for what she termed as inhumane acts and disregard of court orders.
The senator who has turned out to be a fierce critic of governor Kihika’s style of leadership is now rallying members of the county assembly to file an impeachment motion against the governor for what she said was unethical and shameful conduct.
“As Nakuru residents, we call upon our MCAs to draw an impeachment motion regarding the governor’s conduct and ethics, failure to do so, we as Nakuru people will compel them to do so by following article one of the constitution,” said Ms Karanja.
The senator who condemned the action of the county administration regretted that the governor did not respect the rule of law as well as other arms of government, adding that what has happened has never been witnessed before.
“What Nakuru County residents have seen and experienced since Friday after the arrest of the Directors of War Memorial hospital to date is something that has never been seen anywhere in the world and we can never forgive our Governor,” said Ms Karanja.
She promised to seek audience with the president over the matter.
Following the raid on Saturday where the county askaris took over the running of the facility, the county government has been cited for contempt by the hospital, who through its lawyers accused it of disregarding earlier orders restraining it from interfering with operations of the hospital.
