Leonard Kimutai, who was found guilty of three counts of robbery with violence and three counts of indecent acts involving a minor and two adults, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
When delivering the ruling on Wednesday September 24, Principal Magistrate Vincent Adet noted that the High Court had ordered a retrial after the defendant failed to present mitigation at his previous trial.
“I have considered the prosecution’s submissions regarding the earlier conviction and noted that the accused once again failed to mitigate, despite being given the opportunity,” Magistrate Adet said.
Kimutai was sentenced to 40 years for each of the three counts of robbery with violence, 30 years for the two counts of gang rape and 20 years for the indecent act with a minor. The court ordered that the sentences run concurrently, effective from the date of his initial arraignment, with time already served factored in.
On August 27, 2025 the court found Kimutai guilty of all charges relating to an incident in Langa Langa Estate on March 18, 2025, in which three women, including a minor, were subjected to brutal assault by Kimutai and his accomplice.
In his ruling, Magistrate Adet emphasised the trauma and horror endured by the victims, describing the ordeal as deeply disturbing.
