Leonard Mutai, is a 34-year-old man from Molo known for his unwavering courage and selflessness. For the last 13 years he has been ready to risk his life to save that of others.

“Before getting into employment as a fire fighter in 2016, I had a passion of saving lives,” he shares.

According to Mr Mutai, at first he was afraid but the people around him encouraged him causing the fear to slowly dissipate.

Mr Mutai says “There are times that flames can be spreading and threatening to engulf me but I do not let panic set in.  I immediately spring into action.”

The fire fighter says that some times when he is called abruptly where there is a fire blaze he rushes toward the flames, armed with only a bucket of water, his uniform and a blanket.

“I work tirelessly, dousing the flames with water and creating firebreaks to stop the fire’s advance as my only concern is the safety of others,” Mr Mutai highlights.

Exhausted and covered in soot, he manages to contain the fire just in time, saving property and lives.

Recalling the most recent case, Mr Mutai says he had to save the life of a pregnant woman who was trapped in a small car during an accident in Mau Summit between a lorry and a small car.

“I do not do it for pay, but a part of me gets relieved and contented as I always believe there will be a time when someone will come to my rescue as well,” he adds.
