Robert Ndegwa Kamau alias Thee Pluto may be trading his viral videos for a political podium.

According to posts observed by Mtaa Wangu on his Instagram and Facebook pages, the celebrated content creator and host of The Thee Pluto Show is reportedly eyeing the Naivasha Constituency Member of Parliament seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.

By his own admission on social media, he would be going up against no small opponent, the incumbent MP Jayne Njeri Wanjikū Kìhara who is a seasoned political heavyweight and has held the Naivasha seat for two consecutive terms, building a name that is deeply embedded in the constituency's social and political fabric.

Kihara brings to the race a CV that few can match and with over 20 years in public service, multiple parliamentary terms, and ministerial experience, she is, by every measure, a deeply entrenched political institution in Naivasha.

Unseating her would be no walk in the park. Yet Thee Pluto is not exactly a nobody.

The JKUAT economics graduate has amassed a massive following across his social media pages through his viral loyalty tests and lifestyle content, establishing himself as one of Kenya's most recognizable faces online.

His entrepreneurial identity as he describes himself on his Instagram bio as a ‘Real Estate & Forex King’, suggests a self-made narrative that could resonate with voters.

The timing is also notable as the country's political conversation has increasingly centered on the need for youthful and fresh leadership, an emotion that surged prominently during the Gen Z-led protests of 2024.

In that context, a young, entrepreneurial, digitally connected candidate pitching himself to the Naivasha electorate fits neatly into the national mood. Thee Pluto, if serious, checks many of those boxes on paper.

However, online clout is one thing and governance is another.

The critical question his potential candidacy raises is, what is his manifesto? What does Thee Pluto stand for beyond the screen? What would he do for the roads, schools, hospitals, and livelihoods of Naivasha residents that have not been fulfilled by the incumbent?

And while his education background gives him a foundation, many would argue that Naivasha constituents deserve more and need a solid plan.

Mtaa Wangu reached out to Thee Pluto directly for a comment or clarification on his reported political ambitions. He, however, did not respond to our enquiries.

As 2027 draws closer, the Naivasha race is among those to watch out for.
