Excited cheers and celebration filled the air at Kabarak University, as Forester Kokeyo was sworn in as the Kabarak University Students Chair 2024/25 on February 7,2024.

Contrary to the student leaders I saw run for leadership back while I was in campus, I am quickly impressed by how a 20-year-old came to be crowned a university president.

The newly crowned president begins introducing himself, "My name is Pravin Forester Kokeyo. I am a second year student at Kabarak university pursuing a degree in clinical pharmacy."

As soon as his introduction is done, I am keen to ask if he had any prior political aspirations while joining campus.

"Interestingly enough, I had no political aspirations. I just thought to myself, 'why not give it a shot?"

Described by those around him as an ambitious man, Forester then proceeded to apply, get nominated, vetted and then begin his intense two-week campaign.

"I began campaigning on January, 17, 2024. It involved a lot of footwork since I had to walk around and talk to various students as I sold my manifestos."

His charm, wit and manifestos centred on men’s social affairs were sure to win over his fellow students that voted him into leadership.

When asked whether he has political aspirations beyond school, he says, "No. I plan on pursuing my clinical pharmacy degree. However, nothing is cast in stone. Who knows?"

As our conversation continues, I come to learn that Forester is related to social media sensation, Akothee.

"Akothee is my aunt and she is just as ordinary as the rest of us. However, my relationship to her didn't help secure my seat since only a few people even knew of this relation," he notes with a chuckle.

As the interview comes to a close, Forester is keen to note that he looks forward to carrying out his new role.

"To anyone aspiring to vie as a student leader, remember you are worth it. Go for it and believe you can get it," he concludes.
