As Katiba (constitution) turns 14 years, Nakuru will be celebrating this milestone in style with a two-day festival dubbed Uwazi Festival.

Looking into promoting learning through art in the age of Artificial intelligence, Tribeless Youth founder Shikoh Kihika notes that the annual event in its second edition, is an event by the youth for the youth.

“This will be two days of fun activities. The idea is for young people to come host conversations, learn from the conversations and also do reverse mentorship where, I say it’s a chance for elders to come and learn from the young people,” she says.

Additionally, she notes that the event will leverage the power of visual and performing art, dialogue forums, to engage young people from Nakuru county on critical issues around the Kenya Constitution 2010, the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP), democracy, human rights, and gender equality.

More to it, Ms Kihika notes that the two-day event happening at Nyayo gardens between August 26 and 27, will be a cocktail of activities with performances ranging from music, poetry, graffiti works, games, AI setups and dialogue booths and so on.

Starting with ‘AI na mimi ‘she mentions through Virtual reality (VR) experience, participants can experience simulations related to human rights issues, development projects, and democratic processes.

“We would love that every voice is heard. Digesting the Katiba will be the start of it, so that residents understand how their rights are protected and enshrined in the constitution," she says as she emphasizes on the need for people to understand the constitution 2010.

Other than this, Ms Kihika adds that the issue of extrajudicial killings will also be factored into the conversations at the event.

“It was fulfilling to see photos of people in the streets protesting with the constitution in hand. For the first time, the youth who were called ignorant and were told they do not understand nor want to read the constitution read it and put it to action,” she explains.

At least 20 artists will be performing in the two-day event including Juliani, Gufy Dox, Mbunge Aliyeparara, Mufasa ,2tea, Slim Shaka , Stella Kaviti, Look It Art ,Nyash the Poet , Priest the Poet among others.
