Valentine’s weekend arrives wrapped in red, and Nakuru does not wait for permission to fall in love.

By Friday evening, the city is already whispering one message: if your mpoa has no plan for you, make one for yourself, and if they do, basi you are among the lucky ones.

Valentine’s Day has claimed the calendar, and Nakuru is ready to host everyone, couples, hopeful singles, fitness lovers and those simply choosing joy over waiting.

The day kicks off on an energetic note as residents gather for a Fitness & Wellness Walk from Nakuru town to Njoro Posta, flagging off at Nyayo Gardens Gate opposite Stima Sacco at 6:45am. Organised by the Nakuru Walk Movement, the walk brings together participants celebrating love through movement, connection and healthy living.

Not far away, romance takes on a different rhythm opposite the Nakuru Showground, where couples and fitness partners join the Partners in Gains Valentine’s workout session. From 9am to noon, participants move through obstacle races, Zumba, yoga and playful challenges, dressed in sporty reds and shared determination, with roses and candy waiting at the finish line.

Elsewhere, laughter and splashes fill Section 58 as a Singles Airbnb Pool Party comes alive at midday. Singles step into a relaxed space where expectations are light and vibes carry the moment. Music and poolside conversations create easy connections, proving Valentine’s can still be enjoyed without pressure.

Food lovers are not left behind either. The Nakuru Food Festival 4.0, Lovers Edition at The Barn BBQ & Lounge opens its gates from 11am, stretching into the night with grills, pizza, local delicacies and entertainment. Couples, families and groups of friend’s streams in, drawn by the promise of flavour and shared experience.

Music then takes centre stage at the Rhythm Fiesta 2.0, Lovers Edition at Rift Valley Sports Club from 1pm. Live performances, DJs and MCs turn the afternoon into a celebration of sound and style, with revelers dressed in black and gold casual, soaking in a daytime Valentine’s party atmosphere.

As evening settles in, Park N Chill Garden in Barnabas, tucked behind Lasimpo Hotel, glows with warmth. From 6pm, firewood crackles into life for a Valentine’s Bonfire and Movie Night. Couples sit close under the open sky as romantic films play, DJ music fills the pauses, and early arrivals receive small tokens, a glass of wine for accompanied ladies and red roses for the first unaccompanied guests, quiet reminders that love comes in many forms.

And just when it seems the night cannot get any louder, Wave XO Nakuru flips the script and turns the city into “Naks Vegas.” The Burukanga-themed party promises an electric nightlife experience, complete with red roses, free wine for the first 200 ladies, high-energy sets by DJ Becky, DJ Vee and Tall MC, and a live performance by Collo Blue. It becomes the perfect stop for revelers dressing fresh, showing up bold and letting love, whether self-love or soft-life love, find them on the dance floor.

And as February 14 rolls on, the city keeps reminding everyone of one simple truth, love is sweetest when you show up for yourself first, your people and Nakuru is giving everyone a place to start.
