The Bounce: How Nakuru DJs are breathing new life into the party scene

A new party trend is taking over Nakuru's entertainment scene: The Bounce, a live DJ recording experience that is breathing new life into the city's nightlife.
Mtaa Wangu caught up with the event curator, Dennis Ngugi popularly known as Giggx the Entertainer to learn more about this rising sensation.
Giggx explains that, while the concept isn’t entirely new to the industry, it was inspired by a desire to shine a spotlight on Nakuru-based DJs and maximise available resources, such as sound systems, cameras and local talent.
"The Bounce is powered by Urban Dream Digital Marketing Agency and Island Shot Studios. Our goal is to showcase every talented DJ in Nakuru to your screens and to a live audience twice a month. It’s about growing the DJing scene and giving Nakuru the recognition it deserves,” says Gixx.
However, The Bounce is not your typical club event. It’s designed to feel like an intimate, invite-only party where the crowd can connect deeply with the music and the DJ.
“In most clubs, you rarely get close to the DJ. The Bounce changes that you share the same space, vibe together and even appear in the live recording. It’s an immersive experience," he explains.
Each episode is recorded at a different venue around Nakuru, giving audiences a chance to explore the city’s hidden gems while ensuring the experience remains fresh and visually appealing.
When asked how The Bounce stands out from popular events such as The Bag, Gixx says that there is room for everyone in Nakuru’s vibrant nightlife.
“There can never be music saturation. Everyone wants to have a good time. However, The Bounce focuses on talented but lesser-known DJs who deserve the spotlight,” he says.
He adds that the live audience brings unmatched energy to the set and notes that the setup alternates between male and female crowds to create a dynamic visual appeal during recordings.
Although the show is gaining popularity quickly, it is still self-funded. Gixx explains that ticket sales (Sh500 per person) help to cover the costs of logistics and the after-party, since each shoot can cost up to Sh60,000. The first episode, which was recorded at The Little Garden, featured three DJs and attracted a lively audience.
"DJ Carols' mix got 39,000 views in just four days! That’s huge for Nakuru DJs. The Bounce is more than just an event — it's a movement that gives DJs a platform beyond the club scene," he says.
