Paula Muchesi serenades revellers in Thursday night's live performance
As people streamed in and took their seats Paula Muchesi was preparing to take the stage for Thursday Night Live performance at Culture Mambo, checking whether her saxophone was in good condition.
The resident DJ called her up at exactly 9 PM. She began her set by serenading the revellers with a series of love songs, which made them feel warm and cosy.
As she blew into the mouthpiece, the room was filled with rich, soulful tones. The sound is both smooth and powerful, that which evokes deep emotion.
A few closed their eyes, swaying gently to the rhythm, completely absorbed by the soulful melodies with occasional nods and soft smiles, evidence of the emotional connection being made.
Her fingers danced effortlessly over the keys, pressing and releasing in a seamless flow. Paula then transitioned to the early 2000s music, and the audience sang along as she received applause between the breaks.
Though we were not a full house, she moved around playing and engaging the revellers which made it feel like a private concert.
Emma Wanjiru noted that the performance was well performed and that it reminded her of old church rhymes which gave her nostalgia as she sang along having a good time.
"Paula showed off her versatility by the way she transitioned between Afro beat to Kikuyu songs. I loved her performance," she said.
As the three-hour performance drew to a close, the audience was left craving more, a testament to the captivating and soulful evening.
