The sherehe season is here with us, to some this is a time for the much-needed rest but to others it is that party after party period.
Lakini, even as you enjoy yourselves, here are important tips to help you keep you safe during the Drink-cember period
As you head out for nights during Christmas and the New Year, make a conscious effort to look after yourself and, equally, your friends.
To begin with, always remain alert and keep your drink in sight at all times. Avoid accepting drinks from strangers, as drink spiking is common during this festive period and can happen to anyone.
If you suspect that you or a friend has been spiked, stay with them and keep talking to them. Do not allow them to go home alone or leave with someone you do not know.
In addition, staying close to people you know well and trust can significantly reduce the risk of being targeted by individuals with bad intentions.
Furthermore, when visiting a new club, always share your location with family or friends. Similarly, when ordering a cab, share your ride details so that your loved ones can track your journey until you arrive safely.
If you decide to leave before your friends, it is recommended that you order a taxi from inside the venue and wait indoors until it arrives. This simple step can greatly improve your safety.
At the same time, be aware of your surroundings. Avoid leaving bags unattended or open, and refrain from placing your phone on the table when it is not in use.
When going out as a group, try to organize a designated driver, someone who commits to not drinking alcohol and safely driving everyone home. If this is not possible, pre-arrange a lift with a reliable family member or trusted friend.
It is also advisable to carry emergency money and keep some cash separate from your main wallet or purse, such as in a jacket or jean pocket. This ensures that if your wallet is lost or stolen, you will still have money to get home, for example by taxi.
Moreover, avoid confrontation during a night out. If someone attempts to provoke a fight with you or your friends, the best option is to walk away or report the incident to the bouncer.
Finally, ensure that your phone is fully charged before heading out. Having a working phone means that if something goes wrong, or if you get separated from your group, you will be able to contact your friends or seek help when needed.
