How DJ Reignherd became the 'Face of RnB' music in Nakuru
In the heart of Nakuru’s vibrant nightlife scene, one name stands out among lovers of throwback R&B and soul music, DJ Reignherd.
Known for his impeccable set pieces and deep connection with old-school music enthusiasts, he has been rightfully crowned as the Face of R&B music in Nakuru by residents and revellers.
DJ Reignherd, whose real name is Wilson Gumba, has transformed the city’s entertainment landscape with his signature mixes that blend classic R&B hits with smooth transitions, creating an atmosphere of pure nostalgia.
A night out at entertainment Joints like Chill’s Tavern where he played as a resident DJ pulled in huge R&B crowds.
His carefully curated playlists transport his audience to the golden era of music, where legends like Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston,K-CI and Jojo and Boyz II Men reigned supreme or maybe for the Gen Z Butterfly by Nameless , no judgment though .
At the heart of his influence is his role as the main DJ for Nakuru’s popular Oldies and Soul event.
This highly anticipated monthly gathering has become a haven for throwback music lovers, offering an unmatched experience where attendees can sing along, dance, and immerse themselves in soulful melodies.
Held in some of Nakuru’s most renowned entertainment spots like Hideout Lounge, Chili’s Tavern, Eldorado Rustic and Hill court, Oldies and Soul has gained a huge following, drawing in crowds from all walks of life.
Mtaa Wangu sat with DJ Reignherd to get his view on taking the R&B scene in Nakuru by storm.
Reignherd starts off by saying he has been in the industry since 2018 and owes his breakthrough to lots of research on music and understanding his audience, who in turn reciprocate his efforts by showing up and enjoying his set pieces.
“I don’t consider myself the face of R&B in Nakuru. However, the title has been bestowed to me by my audience. All this has been fuelled by my passion for music and the ability to read the crowd, delivering electrifying sets that evoke deep emotions and cherished memories,” he says
Additionally, he notes that what keeps him going is the great feedback from his audience.
He shares how one day an unknown caller rang him and told him how he loved his work and gifted him sh 5,000 through bank money transfer.
“All I remember were his kind words where the man on the call described me as more than just a DJ, but a curator of nostalgia, a bridge between generations, and a true ambassador of rhythm and blues,” he recalls.
He further shares that his love for R&B and soul music was ignited at a young age by his father, who introduced him to timeless classics and instilled in him a deep appreciation for the genre.
Since 2017, DJ Reignherd has been on a remarkable journey in the entertainment industry, a path that has led him to dine with some of the biggest names in the country.
To him, music is a powerful force, one that as he puts it, "makes you dine with kings."
He is immensely grateful for the love and support Nakuru revellers and those beyond this city have shown him throughout his career.
Beyond the decks, DJ Reignherd has also been instrumental in pushing the old-school music movement forward, mentoring upcoming DJs and advocating for the preservation of classic R&B and soul music.
Looking ahead, he aspires to create a Listening Party; a space where old-school music lovers can gather, relax, and enjoy a chilled R&B set in an intimate and soulful setting.
