'Dear promoters, tulikosea wapi?' How big concerts keep ghosting Nakuru

Audience dancing during the first edition of Ndumo Festival on June 21, 2025.
Let’s not sugarcoat it. Nakuru is losing its Naxvegas personality and it’s not even funny.
At this rate, we might as well describe it as “City most likely to be skipped by every major concert tour.” Because tell me why no promoter ever thinks of stopping here.
We have become the city only remembered when someone needs a stopover on the way to better. While the rest of the country is catching flights, Nakuru folks are catching feelings on repeat.
Right now, while other cities are prepping for concerts, here in Nakuru, folks from Summer Tides haven’t even unpacked before planning another trip for " Alusa Continua World Tour " East Africa edition to either Eldy, Nai or Meru.
Why you ask, because Nakuru does not feature on towns that Alusa will be holding the concerts. I mean Nai and Eldy we get but Meru!! What does Meru have on us?
Ask any Nakuru resident how it feels and you’ll hear the same chorus:“Mbona sisi hupitwa kila wakati?”
Artist after artist. Tour after tour. They all somehow manage to dance around Nakuru without ever stepping foot in it.
Let’s talk receipts.
Nadia Mukami took her Queen of the East tour to Eldoret. Then teamed up with Arrow Bwoy for Burudika Fest still, tukapitwa.
Secondly, Mkurugenzi, Abel Mutua and Crazy Kennar? Eldoret again. And even before they became a city, Eldoret effortlessly welcomed Nyashinski for Shin City. It skipped straight from Nairobi to Eldy.
And now, just when Nakuru thought it couldn’t sting more, Bien drops his East Africa World Tour schedule and guess what? Nakuru is not on it.
Aaaai Nakuru, kwani mlikosea wapi?
At this point, it’s almost tradition, when major concert posters drop, Nakuru fans don’t get excited. They just calculate how far Eldoret, Mombasa or Nairobi is, start planning for fare, and figure out where they will crash. It’s a sad ritual.
Is this what it means to be Kenya’s fourth city? To hold city status on paper but give village energy when it comes to entertainment?
Or are we only good for political rallies?
Ama ni kukosa airport? Let’s see: Nairobi has JKIA, Mombasa with Moi International, Kisumu? Covered, Eldoret? Definitely. Even Meru is within reach of Isiolo Airstrip.
Hapa Nakuru you better catch your matatu darling.
I hope the issue si kapesa , while we have been ranting to promoters to bring the shows closer . Because at this point, it’s borderline disrespectful.
Folks in Naks are tired of being forced to become pro travelers just to enjoy what should be part of their local lifestyle.
Others have become loyal fans of Instagram Lives and TikTok snippets, clapping from afar, while other cities get the full experience.
So, artists, promoters, managers, why doesn’t Nakuru ever cross your mind? Give us a show already.
Watu watatokea, they redeemed themselves with Ndumo and Ngemi festival. Si hata wewe uliona turn out ilikuwa high?.
