For many young creatives in Nakuru, the Model Compass masterclass proved to be more than just a training session it is a mindset shift that is redefining how they view modelling and the broader creative industry.

‎‎Belvin the Poet an aspiring model, says the workshop has given him clarity and direction in an industry he had only begun to explore.

‎‎"Having taken the “baby steps,” the masterclass opened my eyes to the importance of personal branding and visibility," she explains

‎‎She noted that success in commercial modelling is not accidental but begins with how one packages themselves as a brand.

‎‎"The session also exposed me to networks of established creatives, which will be crucial in helping me break into the industry," she says

‎‎For Alphine Saiyanka, also known as Tall Kenya, the experience marked a shift in perspective after two years in modelling.

‎He admits that before attending the masterclass, many models in Nakuru approached the craft casually, often undervaluing their work.

‎‎"However, the training emphasized professionalism, value, and integrity, principles I now plans to apply moving forward," he notes

‎Alphine says he intends to build a strong portfolio and begin charging based on the value he brings, a concept he had previously overlooked.

‎The Model Compass initiative is a collaboration between Grandeur Modelling Hub, led by Darius Abala, and Gatani Model Lab, headed by Jim Gatani. While Grandeur focuses on talent development such as runway and catalogue training, Gatani Model Lab specializes in branding and monetization strategies.

‎‎Launched in 2024 after the founders met during Mr and Miss World Kenya, the program seeks to redefine modelling as both an art and a business. The Nakuru edition expanded its reach to include the broader creative sector, bringing together models, poets, actors, influencers, and entrepreneurs.

‎‎Gatani says the goal is to build an informed and empowered generation of creatives who understand their value. With plans to tour cities such as Kisumu.
