Imagine returning home from church to find your door wide open, knowing fully well you left no one inside.

This was the situation Reuben Gitau, a resident of Lakeview Estate in Naivasha, faced on Sunday 13. Upon arrival, the first thing he saw was an empty space where his television usually sat.

"I was with my family, and we were all shocked. We wondered who could have visited us without notice, only to discover that my TV was gone. My subwoofer was also missing," he recalls.

Gitau explains that most of his neighbours had also gone to church, and no other houses were broken into, except for one neighbour who found their door locked from the outside and had to call for help.

The stolen electronics, valued at over Sh. 40,000, highlight a recurring problem in the estates where thieves often target homes when residents are away at work or church.

Gitau urges security personnel to increase vigilance in the estate, as break-ins have been on the rise.

He says he has reported the incident to Naivasha Police Station for further investigation.

Similarly, Grace Waitugi from Kayole returned from church, only to find her home had been broken into. She lost her television, hard drive, jackets, and bedding.

"I left for church at around 9 a.m., and when I came back, I found my things missing. My neighbour's house was also broken into, and their television was stolen as well," she shares.

Grace notes that no one in the area has come out to say they witnessed anything unusual.

We spoke with Grace while she was filing a report at the Naivasha Police Station.

On Wednesday, Caroline Waigumo, also from Lakeview Estate, had a frightening encounter when she was woken up by a noise outside her house. Looking out her window, she saw a man standing there holding her television.

"I was in my bedroom when the noise woke me. I peeked outside and saw the man holding my TV. I waited to hear if there were more people inside because I was alone," Caroline says.

Once she realized the intruders were outside, she began to scream for help. Neighbours quickly responded, chasing the car the thieves were using.

However, the thieves pulled out a gun, frightening them away. The burglars escaped with a television, gas cylinder, remote control, and a telephone used by her children.

Caroline reported the incident to the police but was later informed that the car’s number plate did not match the vehicle involved in the theft.
