The beginning of every year brings a sense of anticipation to everyone including church goers. The tradition known as “New Beginnings Sunday” is always eagerly awaited by the congregants and clergy alike.

Each church selects a unique theme to set the tone for the upcoming year.

In Nakuru, Christ is the Answer Ministries (CITAM) Church, has picked “Taking New Territories’ as their theme. The theme signifies a call to the congregation at large to embrace growth, expansion, and outreach in various aspects.

This theme typically goes beyond physical space and may encompass spiritual, community, or mission- oriented dimensions.

Over at the Deliverance Church, the theme is “The Year of Threshing the Mountains.”

Congregants are encouraged to commit to approaching the upcoming year with courage, resilience, and faith, trusting they can navigate and overcome obstacles in their spiritual journey and daily lives.

Meanwhile, Trinity Chapel, centred its theme around “ breakthrough”, inspiring the church community to face challenges with resilience, seek spiritual growth and believe in the possibility of transformative breakthroughs in their lives.

The annual tradition not only brings fresh aspiration to the churches but also strengthens the bond among the congregations and its preachers.

As the themes echo through sermons, discussions and community events, the churches become beacons of inspiration each New Year marking a chapter of positive change.

Speaking to Mtaa Wangu, Pastor Martha Mwangi of Lakeview church says,  “There is a profound significance of the themes we choose for our churches each year. They are not mere words or slogans. Instead, they are guiding lights for our journey of faith.”

Her words emphasizing each point states that themes unite them, providing a  shared vision for the community.

“Just as a ship needs a compass to navigate stormy seas, themes guide us through the challenges and triumphs of life,” she notes.

The pastor expresses that themes foster a sense of unity in the church community, as they bind everyone as a family of believers, each of them contributing to the beautiful tapestry of the church.

Ms Mwangi concludes, “Themes of each church stand as a reminder that we are part of something  greater than ourselves. The themes also serve as mirrors, reflecting our collective aspirations and challenges.”
