Where did the Jacaranda trees in Nakuru city come from?
There are so many things that set Nakuru apart from the other cities.
One of the unique things has to be the beautiful jacaranda tree cover that is scattered on various parts of the town.
As you approach the city centre from the Eveready roundabout, you get to notice these trees.
The trees are also scattered by the road side along the Oginga Odinga avenue, where the trees from both side of the road converge at the middle to form a beautiful natural shade.
Frank Walters James (Jacaranda Jim) is the man behind this great beauty that we get to witness today.
These trees were planted by the colonial government. To them, it was an ornamental plant.
The trees served to remind them of the home they had left behind as they came to Africa.
When the white man left in the 1960s after Kenya gaining independence, they left them with us.
In the month of October, the Jacaranda flowers bloom leaving a beautiful sight of purple that beautify various parts of the city.
In the early 2000s, you would easily notice the attractive sight that the purple buds would have.
Even with the smallest gust of the wind, they would be seen flying all over the air, landing on the ground, giving pavements and roads a beautiful colour of purple.
However, due to the change in weather patterns and climate change as a whole, the number of flowers from these trees has significantly reduced.
