As Valentine ’s Day approaches, two couples from Nakuru  talk to Mtaa Wangu  on how eager they are to make the day hold a special place in their hearts, as it is not just a day marked in the calendar for them, but a celebration of their journey together.

As the day unfolds, both couples George Ndung’u and Grace Wanjiku, Alice Nyambura and Samuel Maina, find to share moments, laughter and joy in their chosen activity to strengthen the bond of their love.

The love story of George and Grace still unfolds over two decades later, after crossing paths through seminar trips, exchange flowers and dine in restaurants.

Ms Wanjiku shares, “For as long as I can remember, my husband has always gifted me flowers, creating a timeless ritual that has become part of our relationship.”

Additionally, she notes that afterwards her husband always reserves dinner at their favourite restaurant enjoying the gentle breeze, creating a romantic ambience as they share dinner.

Getting a comment from the husband, he jovially seconds his wife as he states, “This year is no exception as flowers and dinner always speaks to her. It is a gesture that I want to remain unchanged throughout the years just to ensure she is happy and contented.”

Meanwhile, Alice Nyambura and Samuel Maina, a couple that met at a thrilling rally in Naivasha in 2021, say they always go back to Naivasha to rekindle their love.

Ms Nyambura discloses, “Every year we make it our tradition to revisit Naivasha, a place that echoes our initial spark, as the air is always filled with a sense of nostalgia, and brings back memories of the first time we locked eyes.”

As she continues, she notes that apart from their annual anniversary, this year’s valentines they are planning to revisit the rally’s ground environment that brought them together amid the cheering crowds and reviving engines.

Mr Maina concludes that, “Every man has their own way to show love to their women on this day meant for love. For me, planning a trip to Naivasha for my woman is more than a romantic gesture, but a symbolic journey to always remind us where our  healthy love story began.”
