Three things Nakuru should do in 2024

The new year is finally here with us.

You will agree with me that the main subject of discussion has been around the cost of living which has taken centre stage an both the national and local governments level.

Like many Kenyans across the country, it is my wish that this new year will be better off than what the current situation is.

Moving closer home to Nakuru county, there are a few things that I would like to see happen this year.

In matters infrastructure, the Afraha stadium has been under construction longer than it was anticipated. This long construction period has made many of those who would want to enjoy sporting activities on the ground miss out on it.

I speak for many residents when I say this stadium should be completed this year.

In the entertainment front, it would be great to see Nakuru host more international artists. This would in turn help boost the local economy and in addition to this put Nakuru on the map globally as a city.

In the same lines of entertainment, empowering of local artists should be on the County’s to do list. Borrowing from Nairobi County, we should organize our own Nakuru festival where local artists come out and perform.

This would also create a platform for Nakuru artists to interact with nationally acclaimed artists thus improving their network.

Moving on to the rate of crime, the better part of last year was headlined by a high number of cases of insecurity most of which left many of the victims fatally wounded.

From 2022, with the killing of the women in Mawanga to 2023, with the high surge of robbery with violence rocking parts of Flamingo, Kivumbini and many more, insecurity remains a thorn in the flesh of many of the residents and the security apparatus.

The reshuffle of police officers last year was definitely a step in the right direction. The phone snatching in the city centre truly reduced.

It is my hope that more is done to curb insecurity that seems to have migrated to the estates as is the case in Satellite.

All in all, I hope the new year is one that will bring with it good tidings and blessings. Happy New Year!
