Along Kenyatta Avenue in Nakuru unfolds drainage covers that have been vandalized leaving perilous openings to pedestrians who can easily slide in.

The openings have left the residents worried and a number of good hearted people have taken the initiative action to put branches and stones on top of the opening to prevent potential accidents.

Benson Mula, one of the outraged Nakuru residents demand accountability and increased security measures from the government.

Mr Mula angrily says, "What's the need of the CCTV when the government cannot look into it and take hold of the ones responsible of vandalizing the covers? Nakuru being a city should stand and maintain as one!"

Mr Mula notes that as residents of the city they should unite against the silent threat, by ensuring the culprits responsible for the reckless act are apprehended in order to restore safety to Nakuru's street.

Diana Kariuki, seconding Mr Mula, passionately voiced her fears, emphasizing the danger the openings pose to individuals who could fall inside when not careful.

Ms Kariuki, standing next to one of the exposed drains near KCB bank says "My plea is that the government lends an ear to the urgent issue that threatens the safety of the citizens."

Ms Kariuki highlights the alarming frequency of accidents that might happen when immediate action is not taken to replace the vandalized drainage covers.

According to Mr Gitau Thabanja, the City Manager, " We are trying as much as we can to immediately take action to replace the drainage covers to concrete ones as we care for the safety of our residents."

As he continues to speak he discloses that through the CCTV they will be able to look back in order to catch up with the culprits, to not only prevent vandalism of the drainage covers but also the metals that are around town.

Additionally, Mr Thabanja notes that, "As we do our part we would like the scrap metal dealers to as well help us to enquire before buying where the individual has gotten the metal from, in order to discourage theft and make our work more easier ,since the metals end up in their yards."
