Sketchy details sorround mysterious building in Milimani estate

A section of the building being constructed in Milimani estate.

Quiet, calm and well-mowed trees and bushes surround the Milimani suburbs just opposite the Naivas supermarket along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway.

The road is clear, and only countable vehicles are seen passing by.

A long yellow crane can be seen from a distance, moving slowly in either direction, as it announces the construction of a huge building in the posh estate.

Residents within their tranquil houses filled will greenery and fresh air watch as the neighbourhood continues to transform.

The once-familiar skyline is now punctuated by the skeletal frame of a new structure rising from the earth.

Speculation engulfing the air is that this is a new hotel, belonging to a ‘powerful politician.’

Sources say that so magnificent is this hotel meant to be, that it will rival even the prestigious hotel nearby.

The construction site buzzes with activity as construction workers’ colourful helmets can be seen from a distance.

Nakuru residents question with a mixture of anticipation and apprehension if this new establishment will bring prosperity to the area or if it will overshadow existing enterprises.

Standing antagonistically behind the newly-built governor’s office, the more than four-story building also brings to question if this is a ‘security breach’’ for Nakuru statehouse, as rumours always have it that no tall building is allowed near that of the head of state’s residence.

But most importantly, will this new art of architecture breathe new life into Milimani, drawing visitors and commerce, or will it overshadow the charm of the neighbourhood and upset the delicate balance that has been cherished?

For now, this is a wait-and-see situation.
