David Gathua founded Set Apart with a clear mission; to create a judgment-free platform where young people could connect, share their faith, and engage in meaningful discussions.

Recognizing the need for a space where youths could find like-minded peers with similar visions and ambitions, Gathua saw Set Apart as a vital community.

"This is a platform where young people come together every Friday to share the word of God, dance, and network," he explains.

Gathua notes that it is designed to foster a Christian worldview, therefore encouraging critical thinking about faith and equiping young people with the tools to live out their beliefs.

Importantly, Gathua emphasizes that the platform is inclusive, welcoming anyone interested in open, fear-free discussions- an aspect he identified as lacking during his time as a youth pastor in high schools and on campuses.

"Many churches focus solely on spiritual growth, but there's a pressing need to support the youth emotionally, physically, psychologically and career-wise as well," Gathua asserts.

Set Apart also serves as a stage for talented youth aged 18-30 to showcase their abilities where they not only meet but they have an opportunity to go for missions in schools.

He also notes the group gets to visit the vulnerable during the holidays.

Shalom Wambui, who joined the platform in 2016, highlights its dual benefits which are spiritual growth and professional networking.

"I meet other young professionals, exchange contacts, and we support each other in our careers," says Wambui.

The 23-year-old appreciates the candid conversations Set Apart fosters on topics like sex, marriage, and substance abuse where it's free from parental judgment.

Guided by Wanjau, these discussions are biblically grounded and youth-friendly.

Elvis Telvis, a 19-year-old member, shares how Set Apart has provided him with opportunities to interact with peers and showcase his talent.

He notes that through the platform, he found support to attend Deejaying school and engage in Christian-related activities in a fun, youthful way.

"Set Apart lets us have open conversations where everyone participates," Telvis notes,

He adds that it also helps him network with young professionals from various fields and through that he's able to get job opportunities.
