Quality breeding takes centre stage as egerton, deloraine house claim top honours

The livestock arena at the ongoing Nakuru Agricultural Show came alive as top breeders showcased some of the country's finest animals, with Egerton University and Deloraine House emerging among the biggest winners after their animals claimed top honors in various categories.
Egerton University dominated the dairy livestock classes after its dairy cow was crowned the Overall Champion, impressing judges with its exceptional breed characteristics and superior dairy qualities.
The champion animal stood out from the rest due to its strong and well-balanced body, excellent dairy conformation, straight topline, well-developed udder, sound feet and legs, and outstanding overall condition.
In addition, judges noted that the cow was healthy, well managed, and demonstrated superior quality compared to the other entries in the competition, making it the deserving overall winner.
The university also celebrated another victory after its Saanen goat emerged the best in its class. The goat impressed judges with its excellent dairy conformation, strong and well-attached udder, good body capacity, strong feet and legs, and correct breed characteristics.
Furthermore, the winning goat exhibited an overall healthy and well-groomed appearance, qualities that reflected its superior milk-producing potential, structural soundness, and exceptional overall quality. As a result, it outperformed the other competitors to secure the top position.
Meanwhile, Deloraine House earned top honours in the sheep category after its Dorper sheep was declared the overall winner. The animal impressed the judging panel through its outstanding breed characteristics, strong and well-balanced body, superior muscling, straight topline, and sound feet and legs.
Moreover, the sheep displayed excellent body condition, was healthy and well groomed, and demonstrated exceptional overall conformation. These attributes enabled it to outperform other entries and claim the championship title in its category.
The impressive performances by the winning animals highlighted the importance of quality breeding, proper nutrition, effective animal health management, and good husbandry practices.
They also showcased the high standards of livestock production being promoted by institutions and breeders participating in this year's Nakuru Agricultural Show.
