One can argue that success can be measured in different ways, depending on who you ask. But for most people in Nakuru, success is measured in terms of owning large tracts of land.

Simply because of its increasing value as an asset.

So it comes as no surprise that some political leaders have invested in huge farmlands in Nakuru.

Mtaa Wangu takes a look at some of the big names who own large tracts of prime land in Nakuru County.

Kenya's fourth president Uhuru Kenyatta, is leading by example with his sprawling Gicheha Farm, in Nakuru County. Mr Kenyatta, a scion of the Kenyatta family, has vested interest in livestock and milk processing.

According to a report in the Daily Nation, Uhuru owns 4000 acres with over 1000 animals. His farm is home to various breeds of cattle, mostly imported from South Africa and Uganda.

The breeds include Ankole from Uganda, Brangus and also local breeds such as Borans and Sahiwals.

Mwai Kibaki

Former president, the late Mwai Kibaki, invested in a multi-billion dollar 10,000-acre ranch at Maili Saba in Bahati Constituency.

Bahati, which means good fortune in Kiswahili, is set to host its first real estate project as it will have its first gated estate for homeowners who want to relax away from the hustle and bustle of Nakuru town.

The upcoming gated community will be located on the sprawling Gingalii farm owned by Kibaki. According to media reports, Kibaki's family has put up for sale 700 acres of his vast land in the Bahati area for about Sh11 billion.

The former journalist and director of the President's Service Unit is not left out either. Mr Njiru owns 25 acres of land in Ngata area on the busy Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

Of Mr Njiru's 25 acres, three acres are part of the famous Cherrynam Resort, with manicured lawns and watered flowers that give the resort a beautiful and enticing view.

The resort offers a range of services including garden wedding venues, team building, seminars and picnic areas. It also offers accommodation with 25 rooms.

In addition to the multi-million dollar resort, part of the farm has been converted into a helicopter landing pad with an airport lounge and a designated area for refueling.
