Old-school worship with a new-school vibe: How Nakuru youth are revolutionising church evangelism with street concerts

The Light up Nakuru Street concert was everything I expected and more, the energy, vibe and camaraderie of the hundreds of young people who attended the event at the Maasai Market was nothing short of electrifying.
From early afternoon until well after sunset, the town pulsated with the rhythm of worship, youth and pure joy.

The atmosphere was electric - laughter, music and movement woven into a vibrant urban canvas. By 2pm the street was packed with young people dancing with unbridled energy, hands raised in praise under the open sky.
Then came the rain, which started as a drizzle but became steady for almost five minutes. Normally crowds disperse when the sky opens up - but only a few moved to the sides where there were buildings.
Umbrellas were opened, plastic bags covered heads, but feet kept moving and voices grew louder. If anything, the downpour baptized the event with an even deeper sense of purpose. This was more than a concert - it was a movement.

But the real heartbeat of Nakuru was in its own stars, Godwil Babete with the band and Faith Nduhiu leading the people of Kigocho. They didn't just perform - they belonged.
And just when the crowd thought they had seen it all, a ripple went through the crowd. Mama Jabidii took the stage. Her surprise performance of "Miel Matin" had the audience dancing to the popular dance challenge.

People shouted, danced and worshipped. At that moment, it wasn't just about music - it was about presence, unity and divine fire on the streets.
Gospel singer Moji Short Babaa paved the way with an electrifying performance, while Daddy Owen, the veteran powerhouse, closed the set with his presence.

His songs brought nostalgia as people sang along like an anthem of Nakuru, cementing the fact that street praise and worship concerts are taking over church evangelism among the youth of Nakuru.
