Nakuru's booming gospel scene creates opportunities for faith-based talent

Nakuru is experiencing a rise in gospel events, a trend that is not only strengthening the Christian community but also creating more opportunities for gospel creatives to showcase their talents.
From worship concerts and spoken word sessions to youth gatherings and Christian festivals, the growing number of faith-based events is giving artists, poets, emcees and musicians a platform to thrive while remaining true to their beliefs.
According to gospel MC Isaac Kagecha Mwangi, popularly known as Hype Kags, the increase in Christian events is helping address the challenge many creatives face of feeling overlooked and underutilised in mainstream entertainment spaces.
He notes that these platforms enable Christian creatives to freely exercise their gifts while maintaining their faith and values.
Furthermore, Hype Kags says the events are fostering a vibrant creative community that extends beyond Nakuru.
"Through regular interactions, artists are finding new opportunities to collaborate, support one another and build meaningful relationships that strengthen the local gospel industry," he notes.
He adds that the continued growth of gospel events will also encourage long-term partnerships between creatives, businesses and corporate organizations at the local, national and international levels.
"Such collaborations will expand networking opportunities and create sustainable careers for Christian creatives. Additionally, consistent participation in gospel programmes helps creatives build credibility and trust within the industry. As a result, we become more visible to potential employers and event organizers," he says.
Hype Kags further observes that exposure to different events encourages creatives to sharpen their skills, embrace fresh ideas and improve their professionalism, ultimately raising the quality of their work.
Spoken word artist Sammy Ngahu, popularly known as Chotara the Poet, says the increase in Christian events is creating much-needed platforms for faith-based creatives to showcase their talents.
He notes that consistent opportunities to perform allow artists to share their messages with diverse audiences while building confidence and gaining recognition for their work.
Additionally, Chotara believes the rise in gospel events will help Christian creatives expand their presence within the industry by connecting them to wider audiences and valuable networks.
He says these platforms not only inspire collaboration among artists but also open doors to mentorship, partnerships and future opportunities, enabling creatives to grow their ministries and careers while positively impacting society through their gifts.
