Nakuru couple's tragic loss inspires foundation that promotes child safety

When Anthony Kung’u, popularly known as DJ 2ste, and his wife, Cynthia Ndindi, lost their son, Gian George Ngugi, on November 18, 2024, their world was shattered.
Gian, who was just two years and seven months old, tragically lost his life after falling into an underground water tank.
“We believed there was more to the story,” Cynthia recalls.
“We pursued the matter in court for a year, but the process became too painful. At one point, an officer handed us the case file and told us there was nothing she could do. That’s when we realized justice might never come and we had to find another way to heal.”
Instead of allowing grief to consume them, the couple decided to transform their pain into a force for good.
Out of this heartbreak, Gian’s Love Foundation (GLF) was born, a community-based organization dedicated to promoting child safety and responsible caregiving.
“Our son was loved by everyone,” Kungu shares.
“He gave us the gift of being parents. Through this foundation, we want his legacy to live on by ensuring no other parent endures what we went through.”
The foundation’s mission is to create safer, nurturing, and emotionally supportive home environments for children by empowering parents, caregivers, and house managers through training programs focused on child protection, hygiene, emotional awareness, and first aid.
Kung’u notes that the foundation will have a Safe Homes Initiative, which trains domestic caregivers on child safety and hygiene, and Child Safety Campaigns to encourage parents to be more vigilant.
Looking ahead, the couple hopes to expand GLF’s reach beyond Nakuru County to communities across Kenya and eventually beyond the country’s borders.
“Our vision is a world where every child feels safe, valued, and protected at home and in society,” Cynthia emphasizes. “If we can prevent even one child from harm, then Gian’s spirit will continue to shine.”
Kung’u notes that the foundation is set to be launched this Sunday November 16 on the first anniversary of their son’s passing, marking one year since the tragic loss that inspired its creation.
Through Gian’s Love Foundation what began as unimaginable sorrow has blossomed into a mission of love, awareness, and hope, a powerful reminder that even in loss, healing can light the way for others.
