Nakuru City comedy club rebrands for a broader appeal

Nakuru's stand-up comedy scene is entering a new chapter following the rebranding of the Nakuru City Comedy Club to 032 Comedy Club, a move that reflects the collective's ambition to grow beyond the city and establish a stronger presence across Nakuru County.

Coinciding with the rebrand is the launch of Nakuru Unfiltered, a curated monthly stand-up comedy experience that will take place every second Friday of the month, bringing together some of Kenya's finest comedy talent.

The inaugural edition of Nakuru Unfiltered was held Friday at Baraza Media Lab, which now becomes the new home of the monthly comedy series

Speaking about the rebrand, Oluoch Kariuki said the decision was inspired by the need for a broader identity that represents the entire county rather than just Nakuru City.

"We felt the initial name was a bit too wordy. More importantly, we didn't want our identity to be restricted to the city when we have other towns like Naivasha where we can curate stand-up comedy shows and nurture comics. 032 is the area code for Nakuru County, making us a county outfit rather than just a city outfit," he explains.

He highlights that the new identity signals the collective's intention to create comedy experiences across different towns while providing a platform for emerging comedians from throughout the county.

Kariuki says the debut edition of Nakuru Unfiltered promises an evening packed with laughter, headlined by renowned comedian Amandeep Jagde, whose sharp storytelling and captivating stage presence have earned him audiences across the country. The lineup also features Nakuru-based comedians Jimmy Maranga and Bluesman.

Kariuki says beyond delivering an entertaining night out, the monthly comedy series represents a deliberate effort to strengthen Nakuru's creative economy by offering local comedians a consistent performance platform while exposing audiences to established national and international acts.

“By creating a recurring event, 032 Comedy Club hopes to nurture talent, build a loyal comedy audience and position Nakuru as one of Kenya's emerging stand-up comedy destinations,” he says.
