Nakuru, a town rich in artistic talent, has seen its fair share of artists, from cinema to music, theatre to painting, you name it!

Perhaps this is why the Nakuru Art Gallery was officially opened to cater for artists and art lovers, and is currently housed in the Kenya National Library.

The gallery was officially opened by Harrison Kabue, an artist who, despite being a medical doctor by profession, describes himself as a full-time artist and part-time doctor.

Already the art Gallery has already made an impact.

Kabue explains that his motivation to start the gallery stemmed from a growing dissatisfaction with the prevalence of art exhibitions held exclusively in Nairobi. He felt that Nakuru's talented artists deserved more recognition and exposure, which led him to take the bold step.

"I was tired of travelling to Nairobi for art exhibitions. Considering the incredible artistic talent we have in Nakuru, there was a lack of proper platforms for artists to showcase their work," explains Kabue.

The main purpose of the art gallery is to produce high quality artwork that caters to the discerning tastes of Nakuru residents.

Upon entering the gallery, visitors are greeted by a stunning array of paintings that skilfully depict various situations and challenges prevalent in Kenya.

Each canvas is a testament to the artist's dedication and skill, capturing the essence of Nakuru's vibrant art scene.

While the current collection primarily showcases Kabue's own work, his vision for the gallery extends far beyond this. He hopes to provide a platform for as many Nakuru artists as possible to showcase their work and gain recognition. The gallery also aims to inspire art collectors to appreciate and support the rich pool of talent that exists in Nakuru.

In addition, Kabue hopes to increase the community's understanding and appreciation of art. It also aims to promote a deeper perspective and encourage Nakuru residents to engage with works of art on a deeper level. Kabue believes that through this initiative, the art industry in Nakuru will not only grow, but also receive the recognition it deserves for its remarkable efforts.

As the gallery continues to develop and expand its collection, Nakuru's artistic landscape will undoubtedly thrive, leaving its mark on the local culture and inspiring future generations of talented artists.
