Ushafika? Niko hapa karibu na Highway Towers”, is quite a popular way many would give directions in Nakuru.

You will rarely hear someone say, “take a 5-minutes’ Drive along Moses Mudavadi Road you will arrive at the Kenya National Library- Nakuru.”

Directions in Nakuru are given based on popular buildings rather than the streets.

But in case you have ever paused to wonder what roads these familiar places actually sit on, here’s your guide to the actual main street names behind the landmarks.

Kenyatta Avenue

The Heartbeat of Nakuru. If the city had a red carpet, Kenyatta Avenue would be it. It’s where big businesses are, most supermarkets, banks, among other business.

Kenyatta Lane

A popular land mark here would be Odeon, Highway towers. At times this street is confused with Kenyatta Avenue.

Watalii Road

I bet many Party goers may know this place. Watalii Road is where Nakuru’s nightlife pulses were once the loudest with its landmarks being Sebs Club , Nyayo Gardens and the Nakuru City Disaster and Rescue centre.

Government Road

An official-sounding name, but the street is a blend of serious and social. Whether you're chasing documents or devouring choma, this street delivers both. Popular stops along this street is Jimmy’s Choma Bite, Culture Mambo Lounge, Nawassco officers and the County Commissioner’s Office.

Kipchoge Avenue

Named after a legendary marathoner, this street doesn’t disappoint. It’s home to Nakuru’s creative pulse and vibrant nightlife. You will find Wave XO Lounge and Players Theatre along this street.

Mburu Gichua

This one of Nakuru’s streets where the grind comes alive carrying both Nakuru formal and informal labour, day and night. Crowded, vibrant, and full of energy, this street buzzes with everyday commerce. Its Landmarks: Top Market, Wa Jose, Sokoni Plaza, Chilli’s Tavern.

Moses Mudavadi Road

Popular landmarks include; Chambers Hotel and Nakuru Library

Tom Mboya Street

This street is home to popular landmarks like; Polo centre, Bontana Hotel, Cathy Hotel , Jennifer Riria Hub.

Oginga Odinga Avenue

A wide avenue where the official meets the elite. It's calm, classy, and sporty. This street is rugby’s Home at the Nakuru Athletics Club, Taidy’s Suites, Central Police station, Jamaa Supermarket and Menengai high school.

West Road

This street has Westside Mall, Waterbuck hotel, Ole-Ken Hotel, DND Plaza.

Other streets include, Pandit Nehru with the old Tuskys, Gusii Road with Gitwamaba and Three Ways Club , Mosque Road with Jamia Mosque, Wa Guku and Kanini  ,Bazaar Road with Olkilgei Hotel , Carnation Hotel ,Wa Morgan and Lee Njiru Road with Legacy hotel.

Evidently, Nakuru has street names although the signages are MIA after they were vandalized along Kenyatta Avenue in the June 2024 Gen Z protest.

So the next time someone says, “Niko Jimmy’s,” just smile and head to Government Road.
