The atmosphere was tense with anticipation yesterday as residents gathered at the entrance of the pyrethrum field day in Turi Ward, Molo Sub county, awaiting the arrival of Governor Susan Kihika for the field day event.

Some sat patiently while others stood, all eyes fixed on the access road.

As her motorcade finally entered, the crowd surged forward, eager to catch a glimpse of the governor.

Murmurs spread through the crowd, with some asking in hushed tones if it was really her. Those who could see her confirmed with excitement.

Dressed in a flowing green and white maxi dress, black boots, and a pearl necklace, she radiated confidence. Her warm smile, unwavering throughout the event, added a personal touch to her presence.

In her company was Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, perhaps a sign that she is still very in tune with the government of the day, despite the four-month absence.

Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe was also present matching half coat jackets with the Governor.

The large number of attendees followed the entourage to the main tent.

With her charismatic charm, Governor Kihika mingled with women and youth, exchanging high-fives and even joining the Nyakinyua women in dance.

When she stood to make her speech, she started with a light-hearted joke while she was giving her plan on the construction of the market in Elburgon, noting that breastfeeding mothers like her will get a breastfeeding space.

“Once the Elburgon market is complete, it will be a one-stop shop for residents. It will create jobs for the youth, and for breastfeeding mothers like me, there will be a designated space to nurse while at work.”

She added that while the day wasn’t solely about her, she would continue to engage with residents on the ground and remain committed to delivering on her mandate to the people of Nakuru.

Kihika certainly found some humour in CS Kagwe's speech when he reminded the people of his now-famous plea urging people to stop behaving normally, concerning his tenure during the COVID-19 pandemic.

She followed Mr Koskei's speech, agreeing with his sentiments as he gave the government's agenda, following attentively.

However, she did not address her absence.

Following her return, Governor Kihika held a cabinet meeting, followed by a series of meetings with county executives and administrators.

The event was her first public appearance since her absence four months ago.
