How a nasty ordeal with a bodaboda operator nearly cost me my life

September, 29, 2023 began like any other ordinary day for Titus Kibet.

The accountant was in Nakuru to sort out some documents from his former school, Egerton University and afterwards got a phone call from a friend to hangout in town.

“I got a call from a good friend of mine to meet up in the city centre for a quick catch up. By the time we were done, it was 8 p.m. I decided to hail a random motorbike along the highway to catch a quick ride to Lando where I was staying with another friend of mine,” Titus recalls.

Little did Titus know that this innocent action of hailing a motorbike would have his day take a different turn.

“I got on the motorbike and alerted the operator that my destination was Lando. Soon, the motorbike began driving down the highway,” Titus narrates before adding, “the motorbike sped past KFA and upon alerting the rider, he told me he'd follow an alternative route slightly ahead.”

The 25-year-old knew something was terribly wrong when the motorbike rider sped all the way to Koleni, took a turn and began heading down to Kaptembwa.

While still a bit shaken up, Titus shares, “I was using my phone briefly and when I looked up, I noticed the motorbike was speeding towards Kaptembwa. Then and there, I knew I was in danger and my instincts kicked in. I jumped off the motorbike. “

Although he saved his life, through this fearless action, Titus ended up getting injured.

“Unlike the movies where the hero jumps off a moving bike or car and lands on their feet, I landed on my right side slightly bruising my face, hand and leg. The rider noticed I was no longer on the motorcycle and made a U-turn to come and take my valuables,” Titus shares.

According to Titus KIbet, the rider dismounted from the motorcycle holding a knife ready to injure him and snatch away his valuables.

“He found me bleeding heavily and took away my phone and shoes leaving me to bleed out. I had to limp all the way to Lando barefooted. I am just happy to be alive and happy that the rider didn’t stab me,” Titus highlights.

As he concludes the narration of his lucky escape, Titus shares, “One thing I’ve learnt is that I will always take a motorbike from someone I personally know. If not, I’ll only take one that’s parked at the stage instead of hailing a random one.”
