There seems to be trouble brewing at Nakuru Players Theatre, after two conflicting statements were issued in the last 24 hours.

The first statement issued on 7th February was stating the Chairperson, Eric Wanyama, had been removed from his position and had no authority to represent or transact on behalf of Nakuru Players Theatre.

The now-deleted notice stated that Wanyama was under review for official misconduct and damaging the public image of the theatre.

"Eric Wanyama is under review for official misconduct and diminishing the public image of the Society. He has no authority to represent or transact on behalf of Nakuru Players Theatre until further notice," the statement read in part.

On 8th February, a new statement was posted on the theatre’s Facebook page, clarifying that the society had regained control of its social media accounts after unauthorized access.

"We have successfully regained control of our social media platforms after unauthorized access led to the spread of misleading information about our leadership. We assure you that Nakuru Players Theatre upholds due process, and any leadership changes follow proper procedure," the statement read.

Eric Wanyama ws elected last year, alongside Barbushe Maina (Vice Chairman), Simon Thuo (Treasurer), Nash Nderitu (Secretary) and Mercy Lengirasi (Vice Secretary).

In the past, the facility has faced sharp criticism from artists in Nakuru who accused the leadership of bias and inability to champion the needs of the artists.

In 2024, the scene at Nakuru Players Theatre changed dramatically with more artists showcasing their work at the theatre, and the number of people attending performances noticeably increasing.

There was a significant increase in the theatre’s activity with regularly hosting at least two plays or events each month.
