Currently, the Nakuru City boundaries are limited to Nakuru Town East and Nakuru Town West sub counties, which have been the confines of the Nakuru Municipality.

However, authorities in the Rift Valley capital Nakuru, are now mulling over expanding boundaries to enable residents in neighboring areas to benefit from better services.

“Some residents have made a proposal to have the boundaries of the new city extended and this will be done. This will enable neighboring areas to benefit from better services offered in the city,” ,” revealed Nakuru City manager Gitau Thabanja in an interview.

According to Stella Karanja, the chairperson of the former Municipality, the city shall soon write to the relevant bodies to allow it to expand the boundaries currently limited to Nakuru Town East and Nakuru Town West sub counties.

“We will explore legal channels  to expand the City beyond the old Nakuru Municipality boundaries, to benefit more residents,” she said.

Among areas targeted, that could be included in the new Nakuru City include; parts of Bahati, Rongai, Njoro and partly Gilgil constituencies.

Particularly, the posh Kiamunyi estate and its neighborhoods and Lanet in Bahati sub county will be included as part of the city.

To the South Nakuru City borders the renowned Lake Nakuru, which is home to the Lake Nakuru National Park and to the North it borders the Menengai Forest.

The newly created city has chances of expansion towards the North West (Kiamunyi side) and North East (Bahati side).

It also has room for expansion towards Ngata and Sobea areas along the Nakuru- Eldoret Highway.

Other areas that are not part of Nakuru City include; Kabarak –the home of former president Daniel arap Moi, Mawanga estate and the fast rising Lanet area, all in Bahati Sub county.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta ‘s expansive Gicheha farm, which neighbor’s former Moi’s Kabarak home, is also not part of the city.

Kabarak and Gicheha farms are both in Rongai Sub County, at the periphery of the new Nakuru City
