The famous Nyayo gardens in Nakuru that only opens from Tuesday to Sunday, has left lots of questions of why not on Mondays too.

Nyayo gardens is a favourite for many people as it creates a space to unplug from life.

This is seen in the number of people who visit the gardens.

Yet even on Mondays when it is closed, residents linger around the gardens, squeezing on the benches as they enjoy the shade of the trees surrounding it.

Businesses who depend on the popularity of the gardens also seem dejected.

One of the photographers, Stephen Wanaina in despair says, “I count Mondays as a loss for me, since I have few to no customers. It is a great difference from the other days where people flock to the gardens."

He adds that majority of his clients like their photos taken with the view of the gardens thus making Mondays a difficult day to sell his skills.

According to Mr Gitau Thabanja, the city manager, Mondays are spared for cleaning and maintaining the gardens.

He adds that, although it may inconvenience many people, those same people will not enjoy the gardens if it’s not clean.

Mr. Thabanja says that it is not the only garden that undergoes cleaning adding that every garden within Nakuru has its own day.

Jane Nyambura, a mother of three, who comes to have a moment of her own, away from her family and work expresses her disappointment at finding the gardens closed.

Nyambura asks, “Why don't they only spare morning hours of cleaning and the rest of the day for people to visit?"

Nyambura says she doesn't see the essence of a whole day cleaning, adding that Mondays is when she needs the gardens the most, thanks to Monday blues.
