“Every time I get a phone call from an unknown number, I assume it’s someone calling me about my son,” says Mary Munialo.

The mother of four says she has had to adjust her and her children’s lives since her son went missing.

“I am holding on to faith that we will be able to find my son. As a family, we have been trying to stay strong, but it has been difficult,” Munialo says sorrowfully.

“In the past month I’ve been intensely involved with the church- praying, attending keshas, and fasting as I talk to God, asking Him to bring back the child He gave me.”

January 26 will mark one month since the disappearance of 15-year-old John Kabu, believed to have wandered off from his younger sister as they were collecting firewood.

The family that hails from Mashini near Sensei Polytechnic in Lanet, Bahati Sub-county, says they have since travelled to various areas outside their community in search of their missing son.

Despite the emotional toll, Munialo says they have reached out to friends and relatives and made several visits to Nakuru town, hoping for any leads that could bring him back home.

“I’ve been to town severally and I especially visit the areas where street children always lounge to see if he might have found a home with them,” says the mother.

She adds that during her visits, she walks around with her son’s photo, showing it to anyone who would care enough to listen, hoping someone might have seen Kabu. Unfortunately, she’s not been successful so far.

Her kids have also asked about the whereabouts of their brother, to which Munialo says she cannot stomach lying to them but instead offers them hope.

“You know, when one cow strays from the herd, the others feel it too. That’s how my children have been feeling,” Munialo says. “I don’t pretend to lie to them about their brother's disappearance. All I tell them is that God will work wonders and bring him back.”

When push comes to shove, Munialo says they’ll start looking in the nearby hospitals and morgues. For now, if anyone has seen him, please get in touch with us immediately on 0745519605, 0792239335, or 0748411476.
