Chance meeting in campus hostel leads man to his wife
The campus experience in Kenyan universities encompasses a number of things, some of them being lots of partying and fleeting romances.
For those that cared to date while in campus, it is hard to imagine getting married to the person you had the feels for back then.
However, this love story right here begins when two young university students’ cross paths back in 2015.
Wilcox Otwoma met the love of his life, Noleen Otwoma, at a college in Eldoret, miles away from Nakuru, a town they both call home.
The pair met through 'kupigana exile,' which means being kicked out of your room so that your roommate can have time with their love interest.
He narrates, "At the time, a close cousin of mine had a little crush on Noleen's roommate. So he asked me to accompany him to go see his crush. The goal of my company was to take Noleen on a walk so that she doesn't realize amepigwa exile."
Shortly after that brief walk, he developed a crush on her and then began the conquest to win Noleen's heart.
" I am not as romantic as him in nature, but his perseverance in trying to hit on me and making me feel loved and appreciated won me over," Noleen shares.
After Noleen accepted Wilcox's proposal to be his girlfriend, they began their whirlwind eight-year romance where they'd break up and get back together again a total of five times.
Speaking on the matter Wilcox shares, "As much as we'd keep breaking up, there was the special connection that we shared that I couldn't seem to have with anyone's else no matter where I searched. She felt it too and that's why our paths kept crossing."
The couple officially got back together in 2019 when they both decided to give their relationship another chance.
"When getting back together, we understood that we had both changed and began dating each other afresh which we try do every now and then even now," Wilcox highlights.
This relationship grew into courtship where Wilcox proposed to Noleen and the pair got married in 2020.
Since then, they have been blessed with a daughter with another baby on the way.
When narrating their love story, Noleen describes her husband as an answered praying adding, "It's important for ladies to start praying for their future spouse. Have a list of what you want and pray specifically for it."
While advising aspiring wives and husbands, Noleen shares, "Knowing what I know now about marriage, my advice to anyone is to marry your friend. Marriage gets tough given that the two of you are different persons and have different mind sets and upbringings."
