Campus Confessions: Doomed is the man who tries to compete with Subaru boyz

It is a mix of ups and downs when it comes to navigating the social scene while at University.

While in high school you would hear teachers saying concentrate on your studies, get good grades so you can go to university, maneno ya wasichana achana nayo sahi, when you get to campus wasichana watakua wengi, wote warembo warembo ni wewe tu utachagua ule mwenye unataka.

Well we got to campus and we waited for the women to come and chase us as we were promised, well mambo kwa ground ilikua different kabisa.

First of all, you are a freshman and that comes with its own set of challenges especially when it comes to campus girls, here is one of the challenges.

Very few were able to find the love of their lives, while many more have been relegated to the bro zone.

Surprisingly, the women you came to campus with would most often refrain from dating their first year classmates, the main excuse being "you're like a little brother to me" when you are both in the same age group.

At this point, dating third and fourth years was the real deal for the campus girls.

Getting to second and third year was when things got really interesting.

Here instead of only competing with your fellow campus mates, salaried men with Subarus and Mark Xs made their triumphant entry into the scene and at that time if you had a girlfriend on campus you must be ready to persevere.

The fact that we lived in hostels of school residence made it even worse.

I remember one Saturday night, my friend and I had just come from a game and were chilling on the balcony.

From our balcony you could see the front gate of the hostel and while we were chatting he could see his girlfriend in a skimpy dress getting into a Subaru. Earlier on his girlfriend had told him she was sleeping in because she was tired.

During my time at university, this script was read out every day.
By fourth year, everyone knew their place in the food chain and therefore dated at their own risk.

When we left the campus, our lecturer told us that we should look for money and the women would follow, but now I can only wait and see if that is really true.
