The Nakuru Social Club, a fast-growing youth-led initiative, is steadily expanding its footprint across Kenya, with activities now running in Nairobi, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kirinyaga and Kisii.
This growth, co-founder Damian Nyakundi says, reflects the increasing demand for safe and engaging social spaces for young people.
Speaking during an interview, Nyakundi noted that the expansion has been a major milestone for the club, which was formed barely two months ago. He explained that reaching multiple towns has significantly boosted the club’s visibility and strengthened its mission of connecting youth through meaningful activities.
Among the key wins, he highlighted a rapid increase in membership, with the club now attracting over 3,000 members countrywide. The expansion has also enhanced the club’s brand presence while introducing diverse experiences such as walks, hangouts and trips tailored to different regions.
However, the growth has not come without challenges. Nyakundi admitted that coordinating activities across several towns has proven complex, especially in maintaining consistency in event quality. Communication across large groups, logistics such as transport and timing, and regular updates to their website have also presented hurdles.
To address these challenges, the club has put in place structured leadership, with team leaders in each town overseeing operations. Clear communication channels through WhatsApp, social media and their website, alongside proper planning and scheduling, have helped streamline activities and ensure smooth coordination.
Looking ahead, Nyakundi revealed that the club is planning to expand into more towns across Kenya. He said the focus will be on building strong local communities while maintaining the club’s standards and empowering local leaders to manage operations.
Founded by Nyakundi alongside Ezekiel Karanja and Miriam Moraa, the initiative was inspired by the rising cases of depression among youth. Today, it continues to champion mental wellness by creating affordable, inclusive spaces for young people to connect, heal and rediscover joy.
