'Mstinji' Play Attracts a Full House at Nakuru Player's Theatre
Theatre lovers were yesterday evening treated to an evening of fun and laughter at the Nakuru Player’s theatre during the showcasing of ‘Mstinji’ play.
Both adults and children streamed into the theatre from 5.30pm to enjoy the show performed by the Nairobi performing Arts Studio and Alliance Francaise De Nairobi production.
The play's main theme was money and family. Staring in the play was a General who wanted nice things for himself, especially his young bride who was his sons love but did not want to spend a dime on her.
The play portrayed people in society who have a lot of money but refuse to share what they have with their loved ones.
The general’s tendencies of greed, love of money and zero regard of his family’s needs intrigued the audience who sat glued on their seats from beginning to the end.
The highlight of the play was when the general lost his Sh7 billion and he played dead saying the only way to resurrect him was by returning his cash back.
Noticing that no one was there to sympathize with him he woke up and had everyone in his house arrested in a quest to find out who stole from him.
A chef named barget and the house help also stood out in the performance.
The play was performed in Nakuru to celebrate the 400 year of Moliere and was based on Moliere's comedy masterpiece 'L' Avare.
Joseph Maina ‘Barbushe’ was also featured in the play.
One of the residents Mercy Wanjiku noted that such plays would revive the dormant Nakuru Player’s theatre is done consistently.
“The full house today is proof that there is a thirst for such plays in Nakuru. We hope this will be the beginning of many more shows,” Wanjiku noted.
The play was directed by Stuart Nash the director of ‘I Will Marry When I Want’ and ‘Sarafina’.
