Residents of Kiondo, Lanet were shocked this morning to find two men with a hyena’s carcass along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

The two unidentified men said they were ready to cook and eat the animal as they had even lit a fire, ready to roast the wild animal.

It is suspected that the hyena came from Lake Nakuru national Park which was meters away from their makeshift kitchen.

Witnesses say the animal was hit by a vehicle on Wednesday night and that the carcass lied on the tarmac in the morning until around 9am when the two found it.

The incident caused a stir among motorists which resulted to a brief traffic jam along the busy highway.

At the time, one of the men had eaten a piece of the meat as he waited for the rest of the 'meal' to be ready.

However, Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers were alerted and picked up the carcass before the men devoured it.
