The day Nakuru County Assembly took 'egg on the face' literally

For months, the Nakuru County Assembly has been a stage for one dramatic saga after another, leaving the citizens wondering if they are living in a ‘ni kama vindeo ni kama drama’ era.

Unfortunately, when it comes to tangible development, there's little to show for all the spectacle.

All this has been because of an undying allegiance to a political party and more pressingly over the coveted majority leader seat.

The latest bizarre occurrence is when a Member of the County Assembly (MCA) threw rotten eggs at fellow members of the house.

One of the MCAs, stirred the pot in a way no one expected.

Immediately the Speaker delivered a communication on the substantive Majority Leader and members were exiting the floor of the Assembly, the MCA who is yet to be identified drew an egg and threw it at Paul Warege, MCA Kiamaina Ward in Bahati sub-county, hitting him on the face.

MCAs from the two factions who had already stepped out to address journalists separately had to rush back after commotion ensued at the Assembly entrance.

The Sergeant-at-Arms and the orderlies stepped in immediately and quelled the matter before a fistfight.

The last time we had a scenario of politics, power, and... poultry was during the founding president’s, the late Jomo Kenyatta, rule when he’d gone to London for the Commonwealth Prime Minister's Summit in July 1964.

Then, the first throw of egg according to history smashed on his sleeve and the second one splattered at his feet.

For a country on the frontlines fighting and matching against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) the MCA's display of aggression contrasts with the message of dignity, respect, and empowerment that it has been advocating for.

But now, the question is how low – or rather how rotten – the political drama will get before the county can see any real progress.
