Nakuru county has for the past week been the laughing stock after the county government commissioned a local route stage which harbours vehicles plying the Shabaab-Whitehouse routes.

This is after netizens on X, previously twitter, went on Willie Oeba’s page and elicited strong reactions under a post that likened the stage to a small plot, unworthy of the spotlight it got during the launch.

“Going by the city status that Nakuru was conferred, that stage is not supposed to be there,” read part of the post.

Kenyans who reacted thought that the launch was unserious and laughable.

Top of the list was one Arap Ali_tua, went ahead and said, “hii stage inatoshana na seedbed ya sukuma wiki ndio wanalaunch na ameweka picha yake.”

@JohnWade1536339 … “spending money on such a ‘project’ when healthcare in Nakuru County is in the grave, buried and rotting is just diabolical.”

After the launch, through her Facebook account on August 27, 2024, the Governor said that the stage was in line with her commitment to support the public transport sector, ensuring all stakeholders enjoy a seamless experience into and out of Nakuru City centre.

And while a few netizens on X reacted negatively to the gesture, another lot under her Facebook post elicited gratitude with Liz Blessing saying “Good work Madam Governor @Susan Kihika. You are a promise keeper. God bless you and give you strength and wisdom to lead Nakuru to its level best.”

@Sammy Kiongozi said “your job is well done, friendly and people like it. Let’s continue working based on ground information where all people feel comfortable as happening now.

Gladys Maritim agreed with the sentiments of other netizens and said “good work Madam Governor Nakuru County. Good work, keep it up.”

Barely 72 hours after the launch, residents plying the route woke up to a missing plaque.

The residents are said to have been angered by the act of politicians plastering their faces on development projects funded by taxpayers’ money.

As the dust settles on the small stage saga, it remains to be seen whether this miniature monument will fade into insignificance or resurface as politics get heated.
