Nyege Nyege festival comes to Naivasha

Nyege Nyege Kenyan edition was postponed from September, 1, 2023 to November, 3, 2023.

The say imitation is the best form of flattery. This expression holds water for the Nyege Nyege Kenyan Edition which will be going down at Naivasha from September, 1, 2023 to September, 3, 2023.

Since its launch and social media promotion they have sparked lots of talk, partly backlash, due to the 'Nyege Nyege' term which some netizens felt was brand theft given the sharing of the same with internationally renowned 'Nyege Nyege Ugandan Festival.'

The Festival's marketing manager, Leshan Simon emphasized, “We chose to take the name Nyege Nyege to bring together our East African brothers and sisters.  The Kenyan festival will be much more than music and dancing. We plan to zone in on East Africa’s cuisine, culture and art fusing it all with the event’s main focus, mental wellness."

The event organizer exclusively shared that they are expecting 10,000 people to be in attendance not only from Kenya but from other countries across East Africa.

To ensure this, they have not only put together a wide range of international artists but also local cultural artists who are household names such as Musa Jakadalla, Steve Kay and Sweetstar.

Mr Leshan additionally notes that the festival will three days of music fusion with various genres of music being performed to cater to the different tastes of the large number of people that will be in attendance.

Keeping these numbers in mind, the organizers thought it wise to promote Kenya’s tourism numbers and particularly that of Nakuru County by holding the event in Naivasha.

“We hope that apart from attending the festival, revelers will also set side time to tour Nakuru county and enjoy its breathtaking scenery. To ensure this, we were sure to plan to have the festival in Nakuru in partnership with the county government,” Mr Leshan notes.

When asked whether they plan on hiring the local youth he shared, “This event is made for Kenya and with this said we want to provide employment opportunities for our youth. We particularly encourage the youth from Naivasha and Nakuru environs to apply.”
