Nakuru gets a new Miss Plus Size Queen

It was a glamorous affair at the Nakuru Miss Plus Size beauty pageant where Ivy Nyamwea, a medical technology student at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Embu, was crowned the winner. Ms Nyamwea beat seven other contestants to take home the grand prize of Sh50,000.

In second place was 20-year-old Sally Juma, a hospitality and tourism student at Kenyatta University. She received a cash prize of Sh25,000.

Whitney Nekesa, a Health Records and Information Technology student at KMTC, came third and took home a cash prize of Sh15,000.

The event, held at a popular club in Nakuru, attracted hundreds of fans who filled the club to capacity.

"The competition was fierce and we saw how much effort and creativity went into the contestants' outfits. The winner was only two points away," Fiona Makena, one of the judges and the current Miss County Meru said.

The judges were Fiona Makena (current Miss County Meru/ Miss Universities Kenya 22'23), Geoffrey Mweresa (Marketing Manager at Pambazuka Entertainment) and Joyce Wairimu (current Miss Uasin Gishu County/ Face of Nakuru).

Apart from the top three finalists, the contestants who came fourth, fifth and sixth also walked away with Sh3,000 each and a certificate of participation.

Based on the popular vote, Grace Wamboi was crowned Miss Popularity and walked away with Sh10,000. She was also awarded an additional Sh5,000 by an enthusiastic fan.

All the seven finalists had to impress the judges in five categories to win the different titles and the cash. These categories were Sports, Halloween, Creative Wear, Dinner Outfits and the crowd favourite, the Bikini category.

The event was graced by other crowned pageant title holders from across the country including Face of Kisumu, Face of Nakuru, Miss Beauty of Africa International and Miss Campuses.
