Winfred Wachira, a single mother of three living in Naivasha, thought her marriage of 13 years was unshakable until a twist of betrayal unravelled her world.

Little did she know that her seemingly supportive best friend for one year, would be the catalyst for the impending separation.

Ms Wachira says “We had a very close friendship, that when she struggled, she approached me and told me to give her some food or help to get a job. Since she told me she could not do farm work, I connected her to people to do laundry services for them.”

Ms Wachira additionally notes that she would cook food in her household and share it with her. They became very close to the point she took her to church and opened up on anything.

Ms Wachira laments If time was to go back I would never do the same, as my best friend not only snatched the love of my life but also left the family divided.”

Ms Wachira dedicating herself to her family while unknowingly overlooked the growing bond between her husband and her best friend. Until one day when they had an argument and as usual she opened up to her.

“This time when we fought, my husband as well went to share it with my friend, explaining his part of the story, in which she took advantage of our vulnerability and pounced on it,” she discloses.

Ms Wachira states that was the beginning of the downfall, as everything else unravelled one evening when she stumbled upon messages that revealed the affair.

“The words on the screen pierced through the façade of my seemingly perfect life. Betrayal unfolded in every keystroke, each confession deepening the wound,” the mother of three expresses.

Additionally she notes, her ever supportive husband started abandoning his responsibilities of buying shopping, paying rent and school fees of their children

Ms Wachira says “One day, I felt things were getting out of hand, and I couldn’t take it anymore, and I decided to call him and ask for money, but he told me he was far away in Nairobi, only for me to bump into him at my friend’s gate.”

The mother of three was heartbroken and decided to confront her friend only for her friend to say “Kama hujui kueka bwana yako nitakuekea” that led her to pack the same day and leave.
