It is the festive season and you would all agree with me that most of us are probably beginning to understand the true meaning of the words that rapper Mejja used in one of his songs when he asked 'Kwani jana kuliendaje'.

This is all thanks to the excessive indulgence in food and drink that comes with the month of December.

And no matter where you are, be it in shagz (upcountry) or the city, a large number of us indulge or even overindulge in drinks with high alcohol content.

But even though it is a time to be merry, overindulging in alcoholic drinks has its consequences, such as a hangover.

In order to escape the sick feeling that often comes after a wild night out, people are usually willing to try anything and everything to feel better, because well, this is the month when there seems to be an endless supply of alcohol everywhere you go, and according to the December rule book, saying no is not an option.

As a result, those who do not want the party to stop usually try different concoctions to cure the hangover and be ready for the next sherehe.

Below is a list of some of the craziest hangover cures.

1. Fanta Baridi

I am sure we can all remember when we first started drinking, for me many of my more experienced friends recommended that drinking a cold Fanta orange soda first thing in the morning would cure my hangover. Given how bad I was feeling, I was desperate to try this for any kind of relief. Much to my disappointment, it didn't work for me.

2. Raw egg

Now I've heard this one from a lot of my bougie and white friends. As much as I am an adventurous soul, I am not prepared to gulp down a raw egg just to get rid of a hangover. But to each his own?

3. Burnt toast

Some people believe that munching on a charred slice of bread can help counteract the effects of a night of excessive drinking.

4. The milk affair

One of the more curious hangover cures I've heard of is to soak yourself in sour milk. Another is to drink a glass of cold milk just before going to bed.

5. The water affair

Speaking of things done to cure a hangover before going to sleep, a number of them involve water. The most bizarre is to dip your toes/legs in ice-cold water.

6. Fatty food

This is one of the most common misconceptions, with people believing that greasy food is capable of soaking up alcohol.

7. Kutoa Lock

This is a remedy that every alcoholic has heard of or tried at least once in their life. The only thing I have to say about it is that I only felt extremely drunk after trying it.

8. Coffee

From my own experience, caffeine only provides a temporary energy boost before shit hits the fan. Coffee just makes you feel extremely dehydrated and by the end of the day you are completely exhausted.
