There is an eerie sight in Free Area that has the townsfolk worried. To begin with, there is nothing normal about it.

In fact, everything about it reads like something out of a witch's bible, if such a thing existed.

For the past four days, the locals have had to endure the sour sight and inhale the terrible smell that emanates from the unlikely sight, causing the locals to whisper in hushed tones that someone has cast a bad omen upon the estate.

By now I know you are curious to know exactly what I am talking about. Well, I was on my way to Kiondo from the Free Area when I saw a dog's carcass hanging conspicuously from a tree.

Did the dog die of strangulation, did it die somewhere else and was it left there by someone who wanted to play a bad joke, your guess is as good as mine.

With a rope tied around its neck, the dog swayed from side to side, spreading its foul odour into the air.

It was a stark contrast to the way this particular stretch of road has always looked, with lush green trees giving motorists a serene view as they drive along.

Mathew Muringi, a shopkeeper in the area, says the carcass has been hanging from the tree for the past four days. He has not attempted to remove the dog because he considers it a health hazard as it is already decomposing.

"Kutoa hii mbwa hapa ni tricky. It is already rotting and people have said that this place needs to be cleaned because the sight of a hanged dog is not normal. I hope the county askari's will come and remove it from here as it scares people who use this route," Mathew said.

On social media, residents expressed concerns in  the comment section on a post published on the Facebook page of Nakuru Town. Here is what they had to say.

"Cruelty to animals and creating a public health nuisance," said Peter Monda.

"People of this area should be worried, they have a sociopath," wrote Samuel Kariuki.

"I passed apo nkitokea Barnabas, let me tell you maina ile harufu iko hapo wacha tu," said Austine Charlie.

"Nakuru City #Reality; there is a mad man who lives in this area who is doing this, it's the second time. The dogs are usually hit by vehicles at night," said Martin Njenga.

"This is totally unacceptable and inhumane," said Brother Allan K. Wopi.

So you think the residents of Free Area should be worried about a bad omen, or dismiss it as a bad joke?
